Android Authority published a summary review made by its sister site SoundGuys on Thursday, April 25,
They compared the two earphone brands in the following areas: hardware, microphone quality, bluetooth support and connectivity, battery life, and fit and sound quality – and chose a winner in each category.
Hardware. In design they are definitely different. While both brands have touch controls that can be customized and support wireless charging, Apple charges an additional $40 for its compatible wireless charging case. On the other hand, there is no extra charge for Samsung’s wireless charging case. In addition, Galaxy Buds can be charged by plugging into any of Samsung’s Galaxy S10 phones due to its reverse wireless charging function.
Because of this Galaxy Buds feature and the fact that it doesn’t add to the price for wireless charging, GalaxyBuds wins on hardware.
Microphone Quality. Sound Guys tests showed that the new 2019 AirPods microphone more accurately relays voices compared to the Galaxy Buds. There was a lot less background noise with the AirPods. The Galaxy Buds had the tendency to transmit an echo with the vocals.
AirPods received the winning vote for microphone quality.
Bluetooth support and connectivity.Because Apple uses the latest H1 chip for its AirPods, it provides reliable connectivity and improved battery life. During testing, the Galaxy Buds were plagued with connectivity hiccups.
In the end AirPods won on this feature.
Battery Life. This was an easy measure according to SoundGuys. Apple’s battery life yielded 4.125 hours of actual usage from a single charge while the Galaxy Buds provided 6.53 hours of playback on a single charge.
This was an easy win for the Galaxy Buds.
Fit and Sound Quality. Whichever pair you get you will be paying a premium, so its important that you get a good fit and that the sound quality is good too. As far as fit and getting a good seal is concerned, the AirPods are lacking and are prone to randomly falling out of your ears. The Galaxy Buds scored higher in this area. According to SoundGuys, the Galaxy Buds‘ nozzles are angled and come with an array of ear and wing tips for a more comfortable and secure fit.
During the test by SoundGuys, Galaxy Buds outperformed the AirPods in sound equality in overall clarity due to how they seal to your ear. Because of the Galaxy buds solid fit, the frequency response does not have to be altered too much for them to sound good.
So, for this feature, the Galaxy Buds won out.
