Apple To Introduce A More Powerful iPhone Camera

Reports indicate that the next iPhone could have a camera that will feature more improvements. Per the reports the iPhones which are set to be released next year will come with a 5X zoom and this will be more than double the zoom of the cameras on the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. Additionally the upcoming iPhone will also come with a third lens.

It is understood that the improvements are aimed at catching up with the Huawei P20 Pro whose ‘Leica Triple Camera’ has received the highest ratings from DxOMark. The Leica Triple Camera managed a score of 109 and managed to beat the likes of iPhone X, Google Pixel 2 and Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.

Main camera

According to DxOMark the main camera of the Huawei P20 Pro has a sensor that is unusually large as it is around double the size of that of the Samsung Galaxy S9. Additionally it also possesses a monochrome sensor of 20 megapixels as well as a telephoto of 8 megapixels which is the third lens. While the iPhone X has a front camera of 7 megapixels the front camera of the Huawei P20 Pro is 24 megapixels. The optical zoom of the iPhone X is 2X while that of the Huawei P20 Pro is 3X.

Besides the powerful feature-packed camera in the Huawei P20 Pro, another advantage that the device from the Chinese tech giant has over the iPhone X is a bigger OLED display of 6.1 inches – the size of the OLED display in the iPhone X is 5.8 inches. Apple is rumored to be planning on launching an iPhone X Plus which will have an OLED display measuring 6.5 inches. Just like Apple Huawei also offers a cheaper P20 which comes with an LCD display of 5.8 inches.

Artificial Intelligence

Another area that Apple has to worry about in the smartphone features race is artificial intelligence as Huawei is investing heavily in this field. According to market research firm IDC, Huawei is in third position globally with regards to shipments behind Samsung and Apple which are in second and first position respectively.

This comes in the wake of reports indicating Apple expects sales of the HomePod smart speaker to be lower the expectations of the market.

“Our understanding is that the market expects HomePod shipments to arrive at 5-10 million units in the 2018 fiscal year, versus our forecast of only 2.0-2.5 million units,” wroteMing-Chi Kuo, an analyst at KGI Securities, in a client note.
